Despite the immense potential of renewable energy, West Africa is still struggling with electrification challenges and everyday power cuts. Several local governments have decided to strongly increase the share of renewable energy sources in the energy production.

Due to the lagging infrastructure and local traditions, West African environment is under high burden. To change the situation, waste management and processing technologies and innovations are in great need.

West Africa has an abundance of many local crops and fruits. Despite that, many West African states depend on food imports. Industrialization and development of the food sector would improve the region's autonomy of nutrition and create needed jobs.

Due to lack of knowledge and resources, West Africa is still in need of health innovations to improve the lives of millions.

Product development is having an enormous impact on our every day lives. On the other hand only few functional design products have access to the West African market. Diversifying the product portfolio by innovative and inspiring design West Africa will boost its development and business development prospects.

The revolution of internet and smartphones is also under process in West Africa. Digital media, software, mobile and web  sectors are leaping forward. In near future mobile payments are ubiquitous and applications have come to stay.

West Africa needs international collaboration, active non-governmental organizations, international organizations, public and private sector to develop and to be sustainable in the future.

West African hubs like Dakar, are booming and evolving every day. As the urban opportunities lure people from country side to cities, especially housing sector requires new innovations to build more sustainable urban future. 

Service sector and sharing economy is the future also in West Africa. New business and service models will have major role in developing West Africa of the future.
